Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Meritbook ("Service"), operated as a sole proprietorship. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Meritbook is a private work-log tool that lets you capture notes and generate self-review documents. Your employer has no access to your data. The Service is intended for adults in professional settings.
2. Account registration
You must provide a valid email address and keep your login credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at support@meritbook.net if you believe your account has been compromised.
3. Subscriptions and billing
Meritbook offers a free tier and a paid Pro subscription. Billing is handled by Paddle, our Merchant of Record. By subscribing to Pro, you authorize Paddle to charge your payment method on the recurring schedule (monthly or, if offered, annual) at the rate displayed at checkout.
- Free tier: No charge. Unlimited capture, storage, and one generated review.
- Pro: Recurring subscription at the rate and billing cycle shown at checkout. Includes up to 50 generated reviews per month across all 5 output formats. The first charge confirms your selected plan.
Prices are in USD. Paddle collects and remits applicable taxes. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time via the billing portal in your account settings.
4. Refunds
See our Refund Policy for full details. New Pro subscribers are eligible for a full refund within 7 days of their first charge if they are not satisfied.
5. Cancellation
You may cancel your Pro subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain Pro access until then. After cancellation, your account reverts to the free tier — your data is not deleted. You may delete your account entirely at any time from account settings.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any regulations.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure.
- Use automated means to access or scrape the Service.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service.
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without written permission.
7. Your content
You own the notes and entries you write. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store and process your content solely to provide the Service to you. We do not sell, share, or use your content for any other purpose. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your data.
8. Intellectual property
The Meritbook name, logo, and software are our property. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of our intellectual property to you. You may not use our branding without written permission.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that generated content will be accurate or suitable for any particular purpose.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits or data, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or USD $50, whichever is greater.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these Terms and fail to cure the breach within 14 days of written notice. You may terminate your account at any time by deleting it in account settings. Upon termination, your data is deleted as described in our Privacy Policy.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. Any dispute arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Republic of Korea, unless applicable consumer protection law in your country requires otherwise.
13. Changes to these Terms
We will notify you by email at least 14 days before making any material changes to these Terms. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
